UCLA Introduces NIL Education Initiative for 2024
LOS ANGELES – UCLA Athletics has partnered with Advance NIL (ADVANCE), a renowned consultant group focused on holistic education for athletes, to support its enhanced Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) programming for 2024.
New programming will include multiple workshops run by ADVANCE. UCLA Athletics staff and coaches will participate in a virtual seminar to reinforce a high level of comprehension, progression and guidance. The Advance team will also travel to campus to host in-person sessions with student-athletes focused on how to protect themselves in the NIL space and establish critical life skills while in college, such as financial literacy, tax management, and more.
“Our goal is for student-athletes to develop a foundation for life through their experience with NIL opportunities,” said Martin Jarmond, the Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. “This new initiative will help to ensure that Bruins have access to the best available resources as they navigate this ever-evolving space.”
“We are very excited about this new programming, especially because it will support not only our student-athletes, but our entire athletic department,” stated Erin Adkins, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Sport Administration & Governance. “As the Westwood Ascent program continues to expand, we are committed to adding resources that benefit our whole community.”
Teaming up with ADVANCE is the latest step in UCLA Athletics' proactive approach to supporting its student-athletes' right to build their personal brand and profit on their name, image and likeness. UCLA Athletics previously announced the NIL marketplace Westwood Exchange, as well as Westwood Ascent, an NIL program focused on three pillars - Education, Brand-Building and Monitoring and Disclosure. Other educational programming includes partnerships with UCLA Anderson School of Management (Anderson) and the Center for Media, Entertainment & Sports and UCLA Law School Ziffren Institute for Media, Entertainment, Technology and Sports Law.
